An article in the South Florida Sun Sentinel yesterday reported on new legislation introduced in the Florida  legislature to protect fans’ ticketing rights against restrictive ticketing practices like paperless tickets.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, and Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, R-Fort Lauderdale introduced the  HB 225 and SB 392,  to ensure that fans can purchase great seats at discounted prices from season ticket holders who sell extra tickets, or give tickets to friends without asking Ticketmaster’s permission.

The legislation,, would make it unlawful for ticket vendors to put any restrictions on the resale of tickets or use any technology that would restrict the buyer’s ability to resell the ticket.

When asked if the legislation would make artists pass on playing venues in Florida, Rep. Gaetz replied “It’s not as if Lady Gaga isn’t going to want to perform in Miami.”
