New York Gov. Signs Paperless Ticket Ban Into Law

Following the overwhelming passage by both houses of the New York State Legislature, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the state’s paperless ticketing bill into law.   New York continues to lead in protecting the rights of fans and is the only state that makes non-transferable paperless tickets illegal.

The New York law does not outlaw the use of paperless tickets, but it does requires that paperless tickets be transferable or offer consumers a the option of a traditional paper ticket.

A number of states including Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey and North Carolina are considering similar legislation to protect the rights of live event fans.
